The lari strengthened against both major currencies over the three sessions shown. The US dollar eased from 2.6229 GEL on 24 September to 2.6080 GEL on 26 September, and the euro from 2.9925 GEL to 2.9721 GEL over the same dates. The moves are small, but they run in the same direction on both currencies, which matters for firms pricing imports in either.
Annual inflation was 5.6% in August, 0.1 percentage points above July's 5.5% and below the 5.8% recorded in June. Across those three months the rate has held in a narrow band without establishing a direction.
Growth remains the strongest part of the picture. Real GDP grew 9.0% in the first quarter of 2026 on provisional figures, following provisional readings of 6.7% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 6.4% in the third. The National Bank has held the monetary policy rate at 8.25% at each of its last three decisions, on 17 June, 29 July and 9 September — 0.25 percentage points above the 8.00% at which 2025 ended.
