The National Bank of Georgia held its monetary policy rate at 8.25% on 9 September, the third consecutive decision at that level after those of 17 June and 29 July. The rate remains above the 8.00% at which it closed both 2024 and 2025.
Annual inflation was 5.6% in August, marginally above July's 5.5% and below the 5.8% recorded in June. Three months inside that narrow band is stability rather than a trend in either direction, and it leaves inflation well clear of the rate at which the policy rate is currently set.
Growth is the outlier. Real GDP rose 9.0% year on year in the first quarter of 2026 on provisional data, after a provisional 6.7% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 6.4% in the third. All three figures are subject to revision.
The lari firmed slightly against the euro over the three days shown, to 3.0247 on 12 September from 3.0364 on 10 September, while the dollar rate was effectively unchanged at 2.6095 against 2.6104.
