The lari firmed against both the euro and the dollar over the three sessions shown. The euro eased to 3.0412 GEL on 28 August from 3.0551 on 27 August and 3.0500 on 26 August; the dollar closed at 2.6125 after 2.6195 and 2.6153. The euro move is the larger of the two and more than reverses the previous session's rise, which matters for anyone holding euro-denominated payables.

Annual inflation was 5.5% in July, easing from 5.8% in June and 5.7% in May. Three consecutive months inside a 0.3 percentage point band point to price growth settling rather than turning.

Real GDP growth reached 9.0% in the first quarter of 2026 on provisional Geostat figures, 2.3 percentage points above the 6.7% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025 and above 6.4% in the third quarter. Provisional national accounts are routinely revised, so the first-quarter figure may move.

The monetary policy rate ended 2025 at 8.00%, unchanged from the end of 2024 and 1.50 percentage points below the end of 2023.
