Real GDP grew 9.0% year on year in the first quarter of 2026 on provisional data — 2.3 percentage points faster than the 6.7% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025, and above the 6.4% of the third quarter.
Accommodation and food services led the acceleration, growing 12.4% after 4.0% in the fourth quarter of 2025, its fastest rate of the three quarters shown. Financial and insurance activities expanded 11.7%, ahead of the headline rate but slower than the 14.7% of the third quarter of 2025.
Construction is the exception. Output fell 2.0% against the same quarter a year earlier, after growth of 2.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025 — the only contracting sector of the three, and it turned negative in the same quarter the headline rate reached its fastest pace of the window. All of these figures are provisional and Geostat revises them.
